The Greatest Commandments and the Great Commission are foundational principles in Christianity. They are closely related to the five pillars of worship, discipleship, fellowship, serving, and evangelism. The First Greatest Commandment is to love God with all one’s heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37).
This aligns with the pillar of worship, emphasizing the central importance of sincere and wholehearted devotion to God.
The Second Greatest Commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39).
This relates directly to fellowship, as it underscores the importance of building genuine relationships within the community.
It also connects to service, as loving your neighbor involves actively meeting their needs.
Additionally, evangelism is an expression of love for neighbors, as sharing the Gospel is a way to guide them toward eternal life.
The Great Commission instructs believers to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).
This is directly tied to the pillars of discipleship and evangelism.
Making disciples involves teaching and nurturing believers in their faith (discipleship), while reaching all nations emphasizes the global aspect of evangelism.
Baptizing and teaching are integral parts of the Great Commission.
Baptism is a public expression of faith, aligning with the worship pillar.
Teaching is a key component of discipleship, emphasizing the importance of instructing believers in the ways of Christ.
Worship is an essential aspect of Christian life, as it allows believers to connect with God on a deeper level and express their gratitude, adoration, and reverence for Him. It encompasses a range of activities, from singing hymns and prayers to engaging in contemplative meditation and reflection.
Discipleship is a comprehensive and ongoing process of spiritual growth, guided by biblical teachings and modeled by experienced believers. It involves
– Teaching,
– Mentoring,
– Practicing,
– Good Shepherdship,
– Good Administration,
– Good Modeling.
All are aimed at nurturing individuals into mature and Christ-like disciples.
Fellowship, also known as “koinonia” in Greek, is a central concept in Christian life, emphasizing the deep interconnectedness and interpersonal relationship among believers.
Good fellowship is characterized by several important attributes, including:
• Love: This love is expressed through acts of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
• Acceptance: Fellowship means accepting one another as we are.,
• Support: It means offering encouragement, comfort, and advice when needed.
• Honesty: Fellowship means being honest with one another, even when it’s difficult.
• Humility: It means being willing to serve others and to learn from one another.
The Bible provides numerous verses that shed light on the meaning, purpose, and significance of ministry, highlighting the diverse roles within ministry, and recognizing the gifts and callings of individuals to serve the church and build up the body of Christ.
It emphasizes that ministry is not a one-size-fits-all approach but rather a collaborative effort with various individuals using their unique talents to serve the Lord’s purposes.
Ephesians 4:11-12: “And he gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ.”
Acts 6:3-4: “Therefore, brothers, choose from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this task. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the word of ministry.”
Evangelism is the act of sharing the gospel message with others, inviting them to come to faith in Jesus Christ. It is a central aspect of the Christian life and the Great Commission as described in Act 1:8, as it is how the good news of salvation is spread to the world. You can find the devotion of the church by the allocation of church resources to this ministry.
